Firewall and Proxy Settings
Firewalls and proxy servers are the most common cause of IQ Chart connection problems. For software firewalls such as Norton, McAfee, or Windows XP, configure these applications to permit process javaw.exe (Windows Operating Systems) or Java (other operating systems) access to the Internet. Javaw.exe or Java is Sun Microsystems's implemenation of the Java programming language and run-time environment, the process IQ Chart runs under. Your firewall software vendor provides you with an icon that will take you to their firewall configuration panel to make the update. Other kinds of firewalls and proxies also exist,
usually in an office or school setting. If you are connecting to
the Internet from your home, it is also possible that your ISP (Internet
Service Provider) uses a firewall or proxy. IQ Chart can be
easily configured to get through these firewalls and proxies. If you are
connecting to the Internet through work or school, a firewall or proxy is
almost certainly the cause of your connection problem. In any of these cases,
here's what to try:
One way to determine what the correct proxy settings are is to check the settings on your web browser: Netscape Navigator/Communicator
Microsoft Internet Explorer
If you try this or it doesn't apply to your configuration and you still cannot log into IQ Chart, contact your network administrator to make sure that your firewall and proxy settings are correct. If you are connecting to the Internet from your home, call your ISP to find out if they use a firewall or proxy server. Back To FAQ Topics |
